The shop and opening hours

The shop is the front room of the bakehouse on Tinsmith Yard. Everything on the counter came out of an oven a few metres behind it that morning.

Getting here

By tram or bus

The Shalesmoor tram stop is about five minutes’ walk. Head down towards the river, turn left at the old brick works, and Tinsmith Yard is the cobbled courtyard on your right. Several city centre buses stop on Shalesmoor too.

By bike

There are four Sheffield stands in the courtyard, right outside our window.

By car

There’s no customer parking on the yard itself, but there’s pay-and-display on the surrounding streets. Collecting a big order? Ring ahead and we’ll bring it out to you on the corner.

Access

The shop has a level entrance and enough room for a wheelchair or pushchair at the counter. We don’t have a customer toilet, sorry. Dogs are welcome and there’s a water bowl by the door.

What’s in the shop

All fourteen of the regular cookies most days, plus the seasonal ones. On Saturdays there are a few things you won’t find anywhere else: brown butter blondies, cookie pie by the slice, and whatever Nell happens to be testing that week.

The freezer by the till has bags of six frozen dough pucks for £9.50, in The Lark, Double Dark and Midnight. They go straight from the freezer into a hot oven for about fourteen minutes; instructions are on the bag.

We do espresso, filter coffee, tea and proper hot chocolate. There are six stools at the window and a bench in the yard for when it isn’t raining, which in Sheffield is less often than we’d like.

The machine by our door

If we’re closed, there’s an Ovenlark machine just inside the yard gate. It’s open 24 hours, gets restocked at 7am every day including Mondays, and takes contactless cards and phones.

We also use it to try out new flavours before they go into workplace machines, so you might find something in there that isn’t on the menu yet.
